A typing test measures your typing speed in words per minute (WPM) and accuracy. It presents a passage to type, tracks your keystrokes, and calculates how many words you type correctly per minute. Typing tests help you benchmark your skills and track improvement over time.
WPM (words per minute) is calculated by dividing the number of characters typed by 5 (the standard average word length) and then dividing by the time in minutes. Accuracy is the percentage of correct characters. Both metrics together give a complete picture of your typing performance.
Consistent typing practice builds muscle memory and improves finger placement. Daily 15-30 minute sessions help you type faster and more accurately. Use our 1-minute tests for quick check-ins or longer tests for deeper practice. Track your progress across easy, medium, and hard difficulty levels.
Focus on accuracy before speed. Keep your fingers on the home row (ASDF and JKL;). Practice with your eyes on the screen, not the keyboard. Start with easy passages and gradually increase difficulty. Take breaks to avoid fatigue and maintain good posture.
